Observation tower MP4
MP4 was a product of the occupation of Guernsey in WWII.
The Channel Islands were the only part of Britain captured by the Nazis; they used imported forced labour to build these massive defences, the strongest part of Hitler’s ‘Atlantic Wall’.
MP4 is one of four towers which were used for range finding & targeting for four 12” bore guns further inland, which originated from a Russian battleship captured in WWI.
My intention is to capture the brutalism of the tower in a high contrast black & white style to emphasise form and texture; to provide a striking record of this huge structure, its place in the landscape and elements and details around and within it; and to create a reminder of the brutality which built it.

One2One feedback
Documentary = visual narrative (story) = correct genre
SoI - explain the walk around the through the tower approach, explain the state of disrepair and graffiti. & possibly the construction by concrete shuttering
Technique & craft (composition, point of view, processing) OK, but watch out for suggestion of halo on #15 & ensure all photos have a similar tonal range (looks ok)
#4 doesn’t add much and is a little weak compared to the others
#6 retake standing a little more to the right & revise the light / dark balance
#14 darken left edge a little (#7 is similar, consider replacing #7)
Could include a view looking up a stairway, could include one more obviously walking out at the end.
