Observation tower MP4

MP4 was a product of the occupation of Guernsey in WWII.

It is one of four towers which were used for range finding & targeting for four 12” bore guns further inland, which originated from a Russian battleship captured in WWI.

The Channel Islands were the only part of Britain captured by the Nazis, and imported forced labour was used to build these massive defences, the strongest part of Hitler’s ‘Atlantic Wall’.

My intention is to capture the brutalism of the tower in twelve architectural photographs in a high contrast black & white fine art style to emphasise form and texture; also to provide a travel & tourism audience with a striking record of this huge structure, its place in the landscape and elements and details around and within it; and as a reminder of the brutality which created it.
